Lunchtime Arrangements

All students must remain on the premises for the entire lunch period. In an emergency a student will be granted permission to leave, by either the Head of Year, Medical Officer or one of the Senior Leadership Team on production of a parental note. If permission is given, the signing out procedure should be followed. Where a student is taken ill, parents will be contacted.

All teacher supervision at lunchtime is on a voluntary basis. In addition, there are Senior Leaders aided by Heads of Year who circulate throughout the lunchtime and reinforce the work of the Supervisory Assistants who maintain the good order we expect from our students.

Students take their lunch at set times, and during their lunch break they may eat in the dining hall / canteen or outside. Packed lunches should be eaten in the main hall or outside. During lunchtime sessions, other students are in lessons, and therefore the rest of the school building is out of bounds. Students who enter the out of bounds area during lunchtimes receive a C4 detention.

In wet weather students remain in the dining hall or main hall.

Dining Facilities

The school has recently expanded, with a new state of the art dining hall that provides a spacious area for students to enjoy food and refreshments at breakfast, breaktime and lunchtime.

Free School Meals

We now aim to check eligibility for free school meals for all students when they start at the school to ensure we can provide free school meals to all who qualify.

We use the Online Free School Meal (OFSM) system which checks and confirms to you and the school whether you are eligible or not. Even if your child is not eligible now, the system continues to check and will notify you and the school if your child becomes eligible in the future.

If you do not believe you have provided the relevant details to enable us to check eligibility on your behalf, you can apply yourself.

To apply for free school meals visit the link below and search for the school to start your application:

This online process replaces the paper application form that parents have to complete and send to North Yorkshire Council.
